Our Kamibashi String Doll key chains!

Seen being carried by Shiloh Jolie Pitt, this helps bring String Dolls and their mission into a much larger spotlight!

Handmade by artisans living in rural Northern Thailand, each String Doll has it’s own positive message that it portrays. And with Easter coming up, a String Doll in an Easter Basket is a great way to support Fair Trade!

We love them all, but here are a few of our Spring favorites:

Fashion Trend: Ruffle Scarves

These days, scarves are not just for staying warm in the winter!

Fashion trends keep putting scarves in the spotlight, with lightweight silks and cottons for Spring and Summer. A big part of the trend for Spring 2012 is wearing a scarf that has a little ruffle, and our artisans from India have some gorgeous choices!

Handwoven from light silk, the Chandra Silk Scarf comes in a range of colors in ombre shades.

The Sapna scarf is also handwoven pure silk, with a light ruffle and ruching.  We love the romantic touch it adds to even the simplest top.

The Saraswati Scarf is handwoven lightweight cotton scarf, that has delicate ruffling and an ombre color pattern. In bright pops of color, this longer scarf can be worn in 25 different ways!

And even though it doesn’t have a ruffle, we couldn’t resist the Shibori scarf. There’s just something about unique tie-dye; we can’t get enough!

Celebrating Spring with Jewelry

Today is the FIRST official day of Spring! And while Laura and I both love winter (what with all of our cute wool and happy holiday shoppers) it’s hard not to get excited about Spring!

We’ve spent the last week unpacking and tagging all of our new Spring items: tableware in fresh new colors; scarves in juicy pinks and cool aquas. And of course, jewelry!

We have a new line coming from artisans in the Lake Atitlan region of Guatemala are surrounded by a vibrant landscape, with animals and vegetation in Technicolor, that they draw inspiration from.

We love our new Spring line from our new vendor Altiplano. Their artisans really capture the beauty of the world around them. It’s like a small piece of Guatemala travels all the way to Durham, just by their talented handiwork.

We especially love the new Flower Spray necklaces. We think they’re the perfect compliment to a fresh Spring dress or to dress up a simple top.

And of course we have the earrings to match! What can I say…we LOVE earrings!

I am in love with the Berry and Laura’s crazy about the Spring Multi. Each necklace and earring also comes in a beautiful navy and pale green; something for everyone!

So how do you celebrate the first day of Spring?

their product line has a great variety with new items being added seasonally.

But aside from the items, we’re so excited about the opportunity this week to meet one of the founders of this great organization! And guess what, you can to!

You are invited to meet Mac McCoy, the founder of DZI: The Tibet Collection at One World Market from 2:00 - 3:45 on Thursday, March 22nd!

Mac may be joined by Durham's own Heidrun Erwin who helped to start The Tibet Collection in the late 1980s.  Mac has an incredible story of helping Tibetan refugees, working with the Dalai Lama and creating a successful fair trade company.  Mac may even share some stories and pictures of artisans making his fabulous felt birdhouses - an item we will feature on Saturday, Mach 24th as part of our Sheep Day celebration.

Hope to see you there!
